Waterloo Regional Police Lay First-Degree Murder Charge in Relation to Homicide Investigation

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police have charged Alex LOPEZ-NORIEGA, 33, from Wilmot Township, with first-degree murder.

Police responded to the area of Erbs Road, near the town of St. Agatha, at approximately 12:45 a.m., after receiving a report of a 35-year-old Wilmot Township male deceased in a farm field suffering from significant head trauma.

The suspect had fled the scene prior to police arrival, and information obtained led officers to believe that the suspect was travelling on foot.

At approximately 9:10 a.m., officers arrested the suspect near Charles Street in Kitchener.

On July 29, 2020, the accused appeared in Kitchener’s Ontario Court of Justice.

The victim and accused are known to each other.
