Waterloo Regional Police Participate in Crime Prevention Week

The Waterloo Regional Police Service is pleased to participate in Ontario’s annual Crime Prevention Week, which runs from November 1,  2020, to November 7, 2020.

The week-long promotion of crime prevention, themed ‘Serving Ontario, Protecting Communities,’ is supported by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP), the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, and all police services across Ontario.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service is committed to strengthening public safety by working in partnership with the community in crime prevention. Over the course of the week, we will feature a social media campaign that will focus on specific crimes that are on the rise in our Region. Safety tips and preventative measures will be included to help prevent members of the community from falling victim.

It’s not always possible to prevent crime but, when it happens, it’s important to report it to police. Reporting the incident and providing relevant information allows police to track trends and allows officers to identify suspects and solve investigations.

“Preventing crime before it happens is a goal we all share,” said Bryan Larkin, Chief of Police. “Being informed of crime trends allows us to proactively patrol neighbourhoods in efforts to reduce crime and keep communities safe.”

Anyone who witnesses a crime in-progress is encouraged to call 9-1-1 immediately. For any non-emergency, the public is encouraged to call 519-570-9777 or report online. Individuals who do not wish to be identified can call Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477, where information can be provided anonymously.

The social media campaign will be featured on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. For crime prevention tips and additional safety information visit our website.
