Waterloo Regional Police Partner with Canadian Blood Services For Sirens for Life Campaign

Waterloo Region, Ontario –  The Waterloo Regional Police Service is proud to partner with Canadian Blood Services and local emergency service workers for this year’s Sirens for Life campaign.

The Sirens for Life campaign encourages local emergency service workers and residents to come together and donate blood in support of their local emergency service team.

Emergency service workers often see the urgent need for blood first-hand. In fact, just one person who is seriously injured in a vehicle collision could need as many as 50 blood donations to help save their life.

“There is an urgent need for blood right now,” said Tara Gutscher, Territory Manager for Canadian Blood Services. “There is almost always an increased need for blood on long weekends and this coming weekend is no exception. We are so thankful that these Emergency Services Personnel are giving their time and their blood to save lives. Most of the blood collected at this clinic will be used within five days, helping a family member, neighbour or friend.”

The goal for this year’s Sirens for Life campaign in Waterloo Region is to collect 150 units of blood. As well, organizers hope to recruit 30 new donors.

“When you make the decision to give blood, you are making the decision to save someone’s life,” said Bryan Larkin, Chief of Police. “We hope to see a lot of community members make a commitment to give blood, not only during the Sirens for Life Campaign, but any day. Together, we can help ensure an adequate supply of blood donations is available in our clinics.”

The event will take place Friday, June 29, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at Police Headquarters, located at 200 Maple Grove Road in Cambridge. Emergency Service Leaders of Waterloo Region will be on hand to donate blood and speak to media.

Canadian Blood Services manages the national supply of blood, blood products and stem cells, and related services for all the provinces and territories (excluding Quebec).
