Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police are releasing a new composite image as part of an ongoing investigation into two separate sexual assaults against young girls.
On October 27, 2017, at approximately 7 p.m., a six-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in the stairwell of an apartment building, located at 318 Patricia Avenue in Kitchener. The suspect is believed to be someone who frequented the building or area.
Officers believe this same person is responsible for another sexual assault that occurred October 20, 2013, between the hours of 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. In this incident, a four-year-old girl was inside an apartment building, located at 429 Barrie Street in Waterloo, when she was approached by an unknown man and sexually assaulted.
The composite image being released was produced by Parabon NanoLabs (Parabon), a DNA technology company in Virginia that specializes in DNA phenotyping: the process of predicting physical appearance and ancestry from unidentified DNA evidence. The company’s Snapshot ™ DNA Phenotyping Service (Snapshot) is used to narrow suspect lists and generate leads in criminal investigations.
Using DNA evidence from this investigation, Snapshot produced trait predictions for a person of interest. By combining attributes of appearance, a composite was produced depicting what the person of interest may have looked like at 25 years of age.
Waterloo Regional Police are urging the person responsible for the assaults to come forward by contacting investigators or reporting to any police division. Anyone with information in connection to these incidents is asked to call police at 519-570-9777 ext. 8661 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Parents and caregivers are reminded to be diligent while supervising their children and to immediately call police concerning any suspicious people they see interacting with their children.
