Waterloo Regional Police Respond to Numerous Disturbance Calls at Victoria Park in Kitchener

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police are continuing to investigate a series of disturbance calls in Kitchener.

On May 20, 2024, at approximately 7:25 p.m., Waterloo Regional Police Service received numerous calls from the public reporting that people were setting off fireworks toward members of the public and buildings at Victoria Park in Kitchener. 

Police responded to incidents including disturbances, large crowds of people blocking roadways and businesses, and fireworks being shot toward members of law enforcement and out of moving vehicles.

Over the course of four hours, more than 19 police and additional bylaw officers worked to restore safety and to disperse several hundred people that had gathered in anticipation of Victoria Day fireworks.

A 14-year-old youth has been charged with assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and the investigation is continuing.
