Waterloo Region, Ontario – The Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) is proud to launch the Military Veterans Wellness Program (MVWP) aimed at linking military veterans with the help and support they deserve.
The MVWP, designed by the Toronto Police Service, aims to improve the well-being of veterans by providing law enforcement agencies with a better understanding of veterans and a streamlined referral process to national support services.
The program is available to all community residents who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces, were released with an honourable discharge, and successfully underwent basic training. The program is offered to veterans with or without a call for service from police.
“Every military veteran deserves honour and respect for their service and dedication to Canada. Our Service is a proud supporter of the Military Veterans Wellness Program and is committed to standing in solidarity with all military veterans to ensure nobody fights alone,” said Mark Crowell, Chief of Police for the WRPS.
WRPS is the first police service in Ontario to launch the program alongside the Toronto Police Service. The goal of the program is to roll it out across Canada and to ensure all members of a police service are able to identify a military veteran and ensure support is offered.
To date, WRPS has made 52 referrals to the program.
WRPS is also working with other police services across Ontario to assist them in developing their MVWP to help ensure all veterans who need help, get help.
If you are a military veteran and would like support, please contact the MVWP at mvwp@wrps.on.ca.
