Waterloo Regional Police Service's Cybercrime Unit Lays Charges in Child Pornography Investigation

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police Service's Cybercrime - Internet Child Exploitation Unit has laid charges in a child pornography investigation.

Between October 2023 and May 2024, police received multiple reports regarding an instant messaging application user uploading child pornography and making it available to other persons using the platform.

As part of the investigation, on August 29, 2024, WRPS Cybercrime and Direct Action Response Team officers completed a search warrant at a home in the Laurentian West area of Kitchener.

A 34-year-old Kitchener male was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of Child Pornography (two counts)
  • Distributing Child Pornography

The male was held in police custody for a bail hearing.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service is a member of the Ontario Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet. This project has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of the Solicitor General.
