Waterloo Regional Police Take Part in Ontario's Annual Crime Prevention Week

Media Release

Waterloo Region, Ontario – The Waterloo Regional Police Service is pleased to take part in Ontario’s annual Crime Prevention Week, which runs from November 3,  2019 to November 9, 2019.

The week-long promotion of crime prevention, themed ‘Preventing Crime, Protecting People,’ is supported by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP), the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, and all police services across Ontario.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service is committed to strengthening public safety by working in partnership with the community in crime prevention. Over the course of the week, we will work with government, community groups, and social service providers to promote crime prevention as a shared responsibility in our community and to highlight the importance of crime prevention as a means to achieving safer and healthier communities.

A social media campaign, entitled #TheftTest, will focus on specific crimes that are on the rise in our community and will provide safety tips and preventative measures that we can all take to prevent falling victim.

“Public safety is a shared responsibility, in which both citizens and police have important roles,” said Bryan Larkin, Chief of Police. “We want members of the public to report crime or anything that appears suspicious to police. Reporting crime and providing relevant information allows our officers to identify suspects and solve investigations.”

Individuals who do not wish to be identified can call Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477, where information can be provided anonymously.

The social media campaign will be featured on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. For crime prevention tips and additional safety information visit our website.
