Dear residents of Waterloo Region,
You may soon notice something a little different in the appearance of our officers.
By next month, the Waterloo Regional Police Service will replace its traditional forage cap with a Service-issued ball cap.
The decision, which is optional for our members, was made in an effort to address member feedback and general modernization of our current police uniform.
Replacing the traditional forage cap with Service-issued ball caps will ensure officers are equipped with the most appropriate and functional uniform attire to carry out their jobs safely and effectively. As well, the ball caps will provide improved comfort and practicality to members as they engage in their duties.
Traditional forage caps will continue to be used for ceremonial occasions and events.
The new caps will be issued to the following areas: Patrol, Special Response Unit, sworn plainclothes officers, Special Constables, Auxiliary members, Practical Skills instructors and sworn Senior Leaders. The red caps will be issued to Practical Skills instructors during training scenarios.
While the uniforms may look a little differently, our commitment to public safety remains the same. As always, our members look forward to continuing to serve you and this incredible community.
On behalf of the Waterloo Regional Police Service, we would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for all you’re doing to ensure our community works together to stop the spread of COVID-19. Please, stay healthy, safe, and well.
