WRPS Arrest Youth after Responding to Weapons Incident at Kitchener Mall

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police have arrested a youth after responding to a weapons incident at a shopping mall in Kitchener.

On January 12, 2025, at approximately 2:35 p.m., police responded to Fairview Park Mall for reports of a disturbance involving a male youth threatening a victim with a knife.

Officers arrived and located the male inside the mall. The male was uncooperative and began assaulting officers. Officers used a conducted energy weapon (CEW) to effect an arrest. Officers located and seized a knife during the arrest.  

As a result of the investigation, a 17-year-old Kitchener youth was charged with:

  • Assault
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Assault with intent to resist

The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing. 

There were no physical injuries reported as a result of the incident.
