WRPS Continue to Investigate Incident in Waterloo's University District

UPDATED MEDIA RELEASE:

Waterloo Region, Ontario - Waterloo Regional Police have made an arrest in connection to suspicious person incidents in the University District of Waterloo.

On August 3, 2022, a 38-year-old Kitchener male was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Voyeurism (three counts)
  • Trespass by Night (three counts)
  • Criminal Harassment (three counts)

The male was held for a bail hearing.

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police are continuing to investigate suspicious person incidents in the University District of Waterloo.

On July 17, 2022, between 10:00 p.m. and 10:10 p.m., an unknown male was observed in a residential backyard in the area of Austin Drive and Tamarack Drive.

On July 13, 2022, between 11:10 p.m. and 11:20 p.m., an unknown male was observed peering through a window of a residence in the area of Hickory Street West and Spruce Street.

On July 3, 2022, at approximately midnight, a suspicious person was observed in the areas of Austin Drive and Tamarack Drive and Hickory Street West and Spruce Street.

On July 2, 2022, between 2 a.m. and 2:10 a.m., an unknown male was observed in the backyard of a residence on Hickory Street West near Spruce Street.

Investigators are asking members of the public to check any exterior video surveillance footage they may have and to forward any relevant video footage to police via this link: https://waterloopson.ca.evidence.com/axon/citizen/public/wa22156070. Investigators are interested in any video footage from the above dates, between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m., or any other suspicious activity in the area.

Waterloo Region, Ontario - Waterloo Regional Police are continuing to investigate an incident that took place in the University District in Waterloo.

On July 13, 2022, between 11:10 p.m. and 11:20 p.m., an unknown male was observed peering through a window of a residence in the University District.

The male fled prior to police arrival. 

Investigators are looking to identify and speak to the individual in these photos.

The investigation is ongoing by members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service's General Investigations Unit. 

To improve safety, residents are encouraged to:

  • Remain vigilant and report suspicious individuals to police immediately. 
  • Be cautious of individuals lurking near windows late at night.
  • Install motion sensor lights or leave on exterior lights.
  • Keep windows and doors secure in bedrooms and bathrooms to maintain ultimate privacy.
