Waterloo Region, Ontario - Waterloo Regional Police have arrested a male in connection to an assault that occurred in Kitchener.
On November 25, 2022, at approximately 2:30 p.m., police responded to reports of a disturbance in the area of Cedar Street South and Charles Street East.
Upon arrival, police located a 53-year-old male who had sustained an injury after being struck by a metal pole.
The victim was transported to hospital to receive medical treatment.
Through the investigation, police learned that the suspect had barricaded himself within a residence.
As police negotiated with the male, they learned that a female was inside the residence who the male allegedly prevented from leaving. Throughout the negotiation, the male uttered threats.
Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service's Emergency Response Team were able to breach the door to the unit and arrest the male.
No further physical injuries were reported.
As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old male was charged with several offences, including:
- Assault with a weapon
- Assault cause bodily harm
- Utter threats to damage property
- Forcible confinement
- Mischief under $5,000
- Breach of judicial release order
The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
