File Closure

What is it?

The Waterloo Regional Police Service will consider destroying, sealing or making inaccessible adult fingerprints and dispositions in accordance with the File Closure of Fingerprints and Dispositions process.  If your application is approved by the Waterloo Regional Police Service it is sent to the RCMP which also has to grant approval.  View the RCMP policy.

Records to be destroyed, sealed or made inaccessible are limited to fingerprints and the record of disposition (CPIC) and does NOT include the occurrence report on file with the Waterloo Regional Police Service. The file closure for fingerprints and dispositions may not impact the information included on a record check.

What does it cost?

$50.00 application fee + HST= $56.50

$30.00 appeal fee + HST= $33.90

How long does it take?

You will receive notification of our decision within 30 days of the court disposition being updated in our systems. If approved it will take up to nine months to receive the information back from the RCMP and you will receive another letter when the file closure has occurred.  If denied you will have 35 days to file an appeal. A final decision will be sent to you within 60 days.
