Security Camera Registry

Creating a Safer Community Together

WRPS is proud to launch CAMSafe, a new public safety initiative aimed at strengthening the collaboration between police and the community through a centralized database of privately owned security camera locations.

The free and voluntary program encourages residents and business owners in Waterloo Region to register the locations of their security cameras, such as doorbell cams, CCTV systems, and other surveillance devices, into a secure database accessible only by police.

In the event of a crime or public safety incident, officers can consult the CAMSafe database to identify registered camera locations in the area. If a camera is located near the incident, officers may contact the registered owner and request access to video footage that could assist with the investigation. Participation does not give police direct access to any camera systems, it simply helps them know where cameras are located and who to contact.

Originally developed and launched by the Belleville Police Service in 2021, CAMSafe has since been adopted by several police services and Ontario Provincial Police detachments across the province. The Belleville Police Service continues to administer the program and oversees all registration audits and information validation.
